A picture is worth a thousand words. But if you include an entire database, make it interactive, and add filtering options, the word-to-picture exchange rate is even better.
Infographics at their best are more than just pictures — they can provide new understandings, succinct summaries, or just plain old fun.
In that respect, reading newspaper archives isn’t the only way to get a deeper understanding of current events. Infographics can help us get a better grasp on what’s going on.
Check out these 10 visualizations to learn more about the news with a quick look.

Sweden’s chief prosecutor has reopened a rape investigation against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
Recently, Assange was accused with crimes of molestation and rape by the Swedish authorities. Assange has denied the allegations, claiming they are “without basis,” and later calling the case a “smear campaign” against him and WikiLeaks.
The rape charges were soon dropped by Eva Finne, chief prosecutor in Stockholm, but after the lawyer of the allegedly assaulted woman appealed the decision the case was reopened by Sweden’s Director of Public Prosecution Marianne Ny.

WikiLeaks has announced via Twitter that it will be releasing a leaked CIA paper sometime later today.
The website rose to prominence after releasing over 70,000 U.S. Afghanistan war reports. Since then it has become the center of controversy. In a tweet late last night, WikiLeaks promised more leaked documents, this time in the form of a CIA document. “WikiLeaks to release CIA paper tomorrow,” the (...)

On Friday, controversial
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was accused of rape. Only hours later the charges were dropped, and now Al-Jazeera has
quoted Assange saying that the accusations were part of “a smear campaign.”
Assange and WikiLeaks said on Twitter that some enemy of the site was using the rape accusations as “dirty tricks.” According to The New York Times, Assange claims that even though the charges were dropped, damage has already been done because enemies of the site can use the rumors in a war of public opinion and perception.
